He asked me to marry him (again)!!!

Alexis Russell Herkimer Diamond Crystal Quartz

You guys. YOU GUYS! I have to share this story of Rob proposing to me on Friday, September 1st.

Over the weekend, I was able to visit with a lot of Rob's family at a little reunion his parents were having in Madison. There were family members from both Oregon and Colorado in town for the week and they are just like family to me. I was so excited to spend the afternoon with them, and they did not disappoint!

But before everyone actually arrived at Rob's parents' house, we had planned to head downtown to get some food at this delicious taco place called Tex Tubbs Taco Palace. I could eat their vegan nachos every day and not get sick of it! Rob mentioned he wanted to visit the Union right along lake Mendota before we had lunch since neither of us had been there since before we moved to Oregon back in 2014. Things had changed quite a bit structurally and it was exciting to see how much Madison had grown since we left.

We walked down to a specific pier that we had sat on many times before. We'd hung our feet off the edge and ate lunch together a few times in the past, and it also happened to be where we held hands for the first time and became completely inseparable. Rob turned to hug me and started talking about our future together and how he was looking forward to moving to Washington next summer, how he's excited to watch me grow a business from the ground up when we move, and a few other little things that are coming soon. He gave me so many hugs and I thought he was just being very sweet and sentimental, as we really haven't left the honeymoon stage in almost 4 years (and don't plan to!) and it isn't out of the ordinary to confess our love for each other.

He pulled away from me and got down on one knee and asked if I'd marry him. He showed me the beauuuutiful Alexis Russell crystal quartz ring I have been in love with for many years, and I immediately started crying. He put the ring on me and gave me a hundred hugs and kisses. We sat on the pier for a little while and I mentioned how I had no idea whatsoever that he was going to propose so soon, as I was expecting it to happen in a few months for some reason.

For those of you who don't know, Rob and I have been legally married since February 20th, 2016. We made the decision to get the paperwork together and just sign everything with our two witnesses and the officiant (all who happened to be our close friends) in our living room without any type of ceremony, wedding dress, or vows. Rob is a Type 1 diabetic and relies on insulin and doctor visits to stay alive, and my insurance through the hospital was our best option. But we made a promise to have a real engagement, a real ceremony, and a real reception in the future when we felt the time was right.

So here we are! He proposed and it was so lovely and simple, just the way I like things. It really feels like I'm someone's fiance and the wedding planning can officially start. We're getting married in Mount Rainier National Park on June 16th, 2018! Stay tuned for more updates on that, as I'm sure there will be many photos along the way.

For now, here's some photos of my ring because I'm crazy in love with it and I can't stop looking at it on my finger!!
