You know that incredible rush you get when something excites you enough to make your heart beat a little faster? It's taken a while, but I've found something that feeds my crave for adrenaline just like shooting weddings does. Now, it's shooting portraits in the moment and as they're happening. Lifestyle photos of people in their element. The same fleeting feeling I get to experience during weddings has started to come during portrait sessions, and this shoot reassured that this is exactly where I'm supposed to be. It's like a runner's high for photographers, but shooting photos you love and enjoying your time with the model.
This shoot with Rissa was a breeze and gave me that exact rush. We met through a Milwaukee Facebook group for women who give advice, ask for help, and general just be badass ladies towards each other. She has quite a lot of experience in modeling and this shoot was a really great way for us to learn from each other. As I'm getting more and more involved in editorial type shoots and experience models, I am asking for help left and right how to stay on the right path toward working with more of these types of models, and Rissa was a huge help in offering advice.
I also want to give a huge shout out to Kelly Schubel for helping out with hair and makeup and giving her advice on seeking out talent through agencies. I've met some seriously wonderful professionals in the last year, and being able to bond over our vegan lifestyles was a huge bonus! Kelly is a wonderful woman and I'd recommend her to anyone who needs bridal makeup done.
