You guys. YOU GUYS! I have to share this story of Rob proposing to me on Friday, September 1st.
Over the weekend, I was able to visit with a lot of Rob's family at a little reunion his parents were having in Madison. There were family members from both Oregon and Colorado in town for the week and they are just like family to me. I was so excited to spend the afternoon with them, and they did not disappoint!
But before everyone actually arrived at Rob's parents' house, we had planned to head downtown to get some food at this delicious taco place called Tex Tubbs Taco Palace. I could eat their vegan nachos every day and not get sick of it! Rob mentioned he wanted to visit the Union right along lake Mendota before we had lunch since neither of us had been there since before we moved to Oregon back in 2014. Things had changed quite a bit structurally and it was exciting to see how much Madison had grown since we left.
Every wedding has it's personal touches, heart-warming moments, and meaningful details, but watching Presley and Jordan say their vows and celebrate afterwards was truly beautiful. Presley was one of the girls in my close circle of friends in junior high and high school, so when she told me she was getting married and wanted me as her photographer, I literally jumped up and down while trying to write her a message back (picture me holding my phone and freaking out around the house as I'm attempting to type!). Her wedding with Jordan at the Woodlands Church in Plover last fall was SO thoughtful and sweet.
Allison is like the little sister I never had, so when she asked me to photograph her engagement session and her wedding, I was over the moon! My best friend Leah (who also happens to be my associate photographer that kicks major ass) has been in my life for such a long time, and therefore so has her family. Her younger sister Allison was always around when we were growing up, and I got to watch her turn into a young adult who is engaged to a kind-hearted man.
Cortney and Dereck’s wedding was definitely one for the books. I knew Dereck very vaguely through a friend of a friend, and as soon as I met Cortney it was obvious they had found a love like no other. It was like they were juuuuust out of my circle of friends by one degree, so I saw a lot of familiar faces at their wedding! The venue, the outfits, the tiny details- every part of their wedding day was personal and so lovely.
You guys. You guys! There are just some engagement sessions that are more than I could have ever asked for. Some couples that you click with instantly upon meeting them. Carly and David are two of the sweetest, most genuine folks out there, and I got to photograph them being in love in their gorgeous apartment on the 11th floor overlooking Madison!
Have you ever met someone who is just inches outside of your circle of friends and acquaintances and you feel as if you should know them, but you haven’t had a proper conversation quite yet? That’s how I felt with Cortney and Dereck! We have so many mutual friends and probably have been in the same room a handful of times, but never had a chance to talk.
As you may have seen across the news, somewhere around 3 million people (yes, million!) hit the streets and marched in solidarity to support each other on Saturday, March 21st. A lot of focus was put on women's issues, health, and inequality, but I was met with people from all walks of life who supported universal healthcare, love over hate, and body positivity. The majority of these rallies did not hold back when shouting their disapproval of our newly inaugurated president, Donald Trump.
Lee and Nicole's wedding starting at the Celebration Church in downtown Appleton, WI and ending with a reception at Waverly Beach earlier in 2016 was one to remember. My pal Leah and I collaborated for this one (as usual!), as Leah has known the couple for quite some time through a community that connects people passionate about Jesus called CRU. I've come to know a few CRU weddings through shooting and attending events over the last couple of years, and let me just say they are always a blast!
Throughout the last year and especially in the last day, I've seen a few creatives pick out a word they want to focus on over the next 12 months. I've been going back and forth with this idea for a few weeks and finally settled it. I'm choosing a word!
Here we are, ending 2016 with no turning back. My year has been a hodgepodge of learning from my mistakes, saying yes when I normally would say no, and taking control of my health. This year, I'm gonna show my favorite highlights from the year in no particular order, and then go through my goals and ambitions for 2017. Let's go!
